Book Review: Make Your Own Application (Volume One) by Michael R. Newnham

What started out as a weekly blog post called “TGIF” has turned into a brand new book, Make Your Own Application Volume 1. In a world where authors tend to force ideas upon their readers Pastor and Author Michael R. Newnham actually wants his readers to make their own application.

A writer who wants his readers to think for themselves?

Yep, that’s right sports fans. Newnham wants you to read each of his real life experiences and then make your own application. And that’s just what makes this book so appealing.

Newnham easily and fluidly takes the reader through his daily grind on a search to see if God still speaks to his people and you’ll find his stories about skateboard parks and cats as well as his online encounters both enlightening as well as refreshing.

There’s plenty more I could add to this review but rather then read my high praise I invite you to listen to an interview I conducted with Mr. Newnham that aired on my secular sports radio show. You can access that interview here.

Make Your Own Application can be purchased here.

Disclaimer: Michael R. Newnham gave me this book for free for review purposes and in no way was that free gift given in order to get a favorable review.

Book Review: The Final Summit by Andy Andrews

As a member of the BookSneeze Blogger Review program I was recently sent a free copy of The Final Summit by Andy Andrews. I was not asked to give a favorable review in exchange for the free book.

I received this book for free but I would gladly pay for it because Andy Andrews is a writer worth listening to!

David Ponder is a “Traveler” who has been asked to head up a summit made up of other “Travelers” in order to solve the following question;

“What does humanity need to do, individually and collectively, to restore itself to the pathway toward successful civilization?”

What follows is a masterful tale of how to solve the question at hand. Ponder’s fellow “travelers” are actually recognizable names throughout history who offer their opinions on how to solve this question. That made the book that much more enjoyable.

Andy Andrews has done it once again dear readers. He has used every literary tool at his disposal in order to tell a fascinating story that actually teaches something practical and more importantly biblical. There isn’t a single part of this book that I would change. It’s that good!

The Final Summit by Andy Andrews is a great read and I give it 5 Stars and so will you!! You can purchase this book here.

Software Review: BibleWorks 8

“You don’t really appreciate what you have until it’s gone”. Sounds like a true sort of statement. I could say this about BibleWorks 8. I didn’t really appreciate it until I wasn’t able to use it any longer.

For the better part of the last 6 months the laptop that housed my BibleWorks 8 has been in and out of the shop. When I first installed BibleWorks 8 I was thrilled but it wasn’t until I had to go back to working with books, lexicons and concordances that I realized what an amazing program the great folks at BibleWorks 8 had come up with and how much I missed it.

Today I have the great honor of reviewing this software that was graciously given to me by Mr. Jim Barr, Seminary and Pastor Relations Manager for BibleWorks who in no way asked me to give a positive review in exchange for a free program. Continue reading

Book Review: Uncle Sam’s Plantation: How Big Government Enslaves America’s Poor and What We Can Do About It by Star Parker

Star Parker lived the life that many in the United States have come to enjoy. Having babies out of wedlock and bouncing from apartment to apartment not to mention being chronically unemployed became who Star Parker was.She lived irresponsibly and allowed the United States Government to become her redeemer by giving her a monthly handout.

Then she had enough and decided to do something about it!

Uncle Sam’s Plantation: How Big Government Enslaves America’s Poor and What We Can Do About It is Ms. Parker’s manifesto of not only how she escaped a life of welfare but takes a systematic approach in how the reader can break free of the chains poverty holds on the poor in America.

Parker is a tough lady which is demonstrated in her rhetoric towards the government policies (and politicians) she disagrees with. She lets people “have it” which is a good thing because people actually listen to her including those of whom she criticizes. Hopefully this book will bring about change.

Is this a Christian book? While she talks about the bible, church and God, what she is advocating is morality and not Christianity. There is a difference but that shouldn’t scare anyone away from buying this book. It’s a winner!

I received this book for free as part of the BookSneeze Blogger Review program and was in no way asked to give a favorable review.

Book Review: Sleep: It Does A Family Good by Dr. Archibald D. Hart

Do you know someone who has struggled with insomnia? Have you ever struggled with insomnia? If you answered yes to either of these two questions then Sleep: It Does A Family Good by Dr. Archibald D. Hart might just be what you need to help answer your questions so you can get the sleep your body requires.

As someone who has suffered from insomnia, this book has been a big help to me. Its well written and I must say the tips given have helped me to understand why I am unable to sleep at times. I was surprised at how much my lifestyle played a part in my loss of sleep and just how easily it can be to cause yourself sleepless nights.

Dr. Hart walks each reader through the various sleep disorders and seems to leave no stone unturned as he examines the causes of and possible remedies for those struggling with some form of sleep disorder. It’s an incredible journey and one I found extremely beneficial to me and you will too.

This book is a keeper and one I highly recommend!

I received a free copy of this book from Tyndale House Publishers for review and wasn’t asked or required to give a favorable review.
