Kenneth Copeland is a rock star in the Word of Faith/Prosperity Gospel crowd. You can watch this man on every Christian TV station worldwide virtually 24 hours a day 7 days a week. He’s amassed a fortune by teaching and preaching messages about wealth, health and healing. He claims to be teaching the Gospel but as you will see it really isn’t the Gospel at all but a false gospel, something the Apostle Paul refers to as a myth (2Timothy 4:4)
Let’s examine the following statement from Mr. Copeland;
“Any O.T. prophet could have atoned for our sins if they knew what Jesus knew.” (Substitution and Identification)
The above statement is heresy. Damnable heresy as it denies the deity of Christ.
Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.”
Women don’t have seeds which would mean the One who would come would have to come through a woman. This would have to be extraordinary wouldn’t it? How many OT prophets came into the world through extraordinary means? The answer my friends is none.
Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And coming in, he said to her, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.” But she was very perplexed at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was. The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.” Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?” The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.
The above is the extraordinary means that none of the OT prophets could claim. Isaiah, an OT prophet, someone that Mr. Copeland claims could have been the atonement for our sins, contradicts Copeland’s claim as well;
“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.
As you can clearly see, it wasn’t about how much Jesus knew, but who the Messiah needed to be. The Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth, came into this world like no man did in that He was sinless and He needed to be to atone for our sins. How do we know He was without sin?
For it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens; who does not need daily, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people, because this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. For the Law appoints men as high priests who are weak, but the word of the oath, which came after the Law, appoints a Son, made perfect forever.
WHO COMMITTED NO SIN, NOR WAS ANY DECEIT FOUND IN HIS MOUTH;
and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.
You know that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin.
He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
As you can see, it wasn’t what Jesus KNEW it was WHO He WAS. No OT prophet could lay claim to being born of a virgin AND sinless.
This is how Copeland does it. If he can get you to believe that ANYONE with knowledge could do more then Christ did then it isn’t very hard to convince you to believe this;
“He allowed the devil to drag Him into the depths of hell as if He were the most wicked sinner who ever lived … Every demon in hell came down on Him to annihilate Him … [They] tortured Him beyond anything that anybody has ever conceived … In a thunder of spiritual force, the voice of God spoke to the death-whipped, broken, punished spirit of Jesus … [in] the pit of destruction, and charged the spirit of Jesus with resurrection power! Suddenly His twisted, death-wracked spirit began to fill out and come back to life … He was literally being reborn before the devil’s very eyes. He began to flex His spiritual muscles … Jesus Christ dragged Satan up and down the halls of hell … Jesus … was raised up a born-again man … The day I realized that a born-again man had defeated Satan, hell, and death, I got so excited … !” (“The Price of it All,” Believer’s Voice of Victory, September 1991, p. 4).
The above is the heresy known as the “Born Again Jesus”.
Why would a sinless man need to be born again? How can a sinless man die spiritually?
If Copeland is to be believed, that Jesus died a spiritual death, descended into hell and was “born again” how could His blood save us? Do spirits bleed?
Why would Jesus say on the cross “it is finished” if He was headed to hell to be tormented and tortured by demons for three more days?
Satan wasn’t in hell then and he isn’t there now and he won’t be until the end of the world;
Revelation 20: 10-15
And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
God’s Word written by inspired men tells us what Jesus did in Hades;
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us[e] to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited[f] in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.
Notice how the above inspired passage thoroughly refutes the erroneous teachings of Kenneth Copeland? Christ’s flesh was crucified yet His spirit was ALIVE before He descended into Hades to “preach to the spirits”. This is in direct contradiction to what Copeland and host of others teach daily on Christian TV.
Sadly, Kenneth Copeland’s Jesus isn’t the same Jesus as the one I presented here. His Jesus is an ordinary guy who knew more. His Jesus died spiritually where the one I presented here didn’t. His Jesus finished the atonement process in hell where the Jesus I presented through God’s written word finished His work on the cross.
Two different Jesus’. Two different gospels. Which one will you believe? Will you put your trust in Kenneth Copeland’s myths or in God’s word written by inspired men?
