Warnings For Christian TV?

Last night I watched the movie Elmer Gantry, a movie that has always fascinated me. This movie is a take on the 1927 Sinclair Lewis novel by the same name and stars Burt Lancaster and Jean Simmons. This fictional movie is so prophetic it borders on the ridiculous as much of what was demonstrated in the lives of the main characters we still see in abundance today……(source)

The movie even came with a warning;

We believe that certain aspects of Revivalism can bear examination, that the conduct of some revivalists makes a mockery of the traditional beliefs and practices of traditional Christianity.

We believe that everyone has a right to worship according to his own conscience but- Freedom of religion is not a license to abuse the faith of the people.

However, due to the highly controversial nature of this film, we strongly urge you to prevent impressionable children from seeing it.

This same warning should be shown 24/7 on networks like GOD TV, TBN, Daystar and the rest of their fellow compatriot’s networks as the content, or should I say lack of Christian content can be hazardous to impressionable young children.

This same warning should be shown prior to any Todd Bentley video and prior to the television shows of Paula White, Joyce Meyer, Kenneth Copeland, Creflo Dollar, Zachery Tims and the rest of those vipers who teach the gobbly goop they pass off as “Gospel teaching” on a daily basis.

Why is it that the secular world seems to care more about the children then the so-called Christian world? Sometimes I think the secular world shows more discernment then the world of professing Christianity.

Paul gave the Galatians the following warning;

Galatians 1: 9

As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!

Why do we rarely if ever hear Paul’s Gospel on these networks;

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 NIV

Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance : that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

Instead we hear plenty of;

3 John 2 NIV

Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.

Unfortunately the message above is the predominant message impressionable children are seeing and hearing in their living rooms and streaming live on their computer screens from these so called Christians being promoted on these so called Christian networks, a message heavy with their version of the Gospel and light on Paul’s version of the Gospel.

Much like the fictional character Elmer Gantry, some of today’s most heavily promoted Christian network celebrities live licentious and hypocritical lifestyles (Google your favorite Christian celebrity) that are flaunted in front of our children on a daily basis, yet where are the warnings from these networks?

We have the secular world warning impressionable children and we have Paul warning the Galatians yet where are the warnings from the networks claiming to be Christian? Certainly these network heads must be aware of Paul’s gospel message, right? Certainly the network heads must know that 3 John 2 isn’t the Gospel that saves men’s souls, right?

Maybe the warning can go something like this;

Please be advised that the particular “minister”, while proclaiming to love God and live according to His principles, lives a life of licentiousness and preaches a Gospel that doesn’t line up with the Bibles clear message.

While this network survives financially by promoting and selling these “ministers” and “ministries” airtime, we highly suggest that you prevent impressionable young children from viewing this infomercial as it doesn’t present anything remotely close to the Christianity found within the pages of the Bible……..

What do you guys think?
