As another birthday approaches I’ve been thinking about eternity…..specifically where I’ll be spending eternity. I have a hope that I’ll be one of the elect and have my name written in the Lambs Book of Life. I have a hope that Jesus will return and I will spend eternity with Him………
I also hope I’m right and have been following the right Jesus.
Those that adhere to Full Preterism believe that all was fulfilled in AD70, including;
Revelation 20:11-15 NIV
11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
If Full Preterism is to be believed then the Books have been opened, the dead were judged and anyone whose name is not found in the Book of Life was already thrown into the Lake of Fire…….so where does that leave me and everyone else from AD70 until 2009 and beyond?
I think that leaves each of us……and them as well……. out of luck right?
If FP is to be believed here’s another thing you, me and they missed out on;
Revelation 21:1-5 NIV
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
I still see pain and tears……death and mourning are still with us so what gives? Jesus said everything would be made new and He even went as far as to instruct John to write everything down because His words…….and I’m quoting John quoting Jesus here “these words are trustworthy and true”……….if FP is to be believed then either Jesus lied or John lied or FP is lying…….cause someone surely is.
If FP is to be believed every single one of us born after AD70 is out of luck. We’ve missed the boat or to put it plainly Jesus didn’t elect us to spend eternity with Him. Each and every one of us that believed or still believe that Jesus will return for us has bought into a lie……..we have followed another Jesus and not the Jesus of the Bible because according to FP THAT (their) Jesus has already been there and done that.
This certainly wasn’t meant to be a knock against FP nor an exegetical refutation. These are the simple thoughts of a man (me) facing middle age. Fortunately for me I still believe that Jesus will return for me just like He said He would……this gives me hope……..and I’d rather have hope that He will return and find out I’m wrong later then spend the rest of my days on earth like those who adhere to FP believing that He won’t be…….what a hopeless existence.
Titus 2:11-14 NIV
11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope — the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
