Todd Bentley and the Florida Outpouring Part 7

I’ve felt that something was off in Lakeland….and now I’m absolutely convinced that this so called Florida Outpouring is a man made hoax…..Todd Bentley claimed on GOD TV that a 3 year old girl named Jaden was resurrected from the dead…..he claimed she was on her way to have her organs donated…..funeral arrangements had been made….and she “coughed! Arnold Palmer Hospital officials deny this;

I remember watching Todd Bentley talking on a cell phone with this girls father and proclaiming the good news of little Jaden’s resurrection….and now we all know that this was a lie….there was never a resurrection of little Jaden.

I remember how the crowd went euphoric at the news of little Jaden’s resurrection….and how Bentley jumped around shouting and yelling “Praise God”! Was it all an act?

Now the million dollar question?

Did Todd Bentley know the truth or was he purposely deceived?

Is Todd Bentley deceived or is he a deceiver?

This false resurrection claim makes all his other claims like visiting heaven and conversing with angels questionable, don’t you think?

This false resurrection claim also validates my beliefs that this revival is a hoax. I would think even the most ardent supporters of this revival would take pause and re-examine this man, his ministry and his revival….don’t you think?

Why hasn’t GOD TV, like Charisma Magazine, stepped forward and stated the resurrection story of little Jaden was a lie? Charisma Magazine buried the story but why haven’t they placed this on blast and denounced this hoax?

It’s time for some honest answers from the Bentley people…..from Stephen Strader and anyone else affiliated with this so called revival!

  1. […] 27, 2008 Here’s a question asked on the latest Theology Today post called Todd Bentley and the Florida Outpouring Part 7 regarding the resurrection of the three year old girl… “Hundreds are claiming healing from […]

  2. Staying Within the Confines of the Word of God

God has left us His Word and His Spirit to give us direction for our lives. Our lives are to be governed by the Word of God with the help of the Holy Spirit. (Psalm 119:105, John 16:13, Romans 8:14) When we go outside of the parameters of the Word of God we open the door to demonic deception. (Ephesians 4:27)

There are 3 doctrines being taught in the church today that in my opinion are very harmful because they open the door to demonic power to manifest in the church. The first one is that if you are a prophet you can prophesy to anyone you want at will because you are a prophet. This doctrine violates the Word of God. The Word of God says in 1 Corinthians 12:11 the gifts of the Spirit operate as God wills, not as we will. 2 Peter 1:21 says that prophecy never comes by the will of man. Ironically if you get into verse one of chapter two he begins to warn the church about false prophets. When a person operates the gifts of the Spirit by his own will he opens the door to familiar spirits that are demonic to give him information. That person now becomes a Christian medium for demonic power. Even Jesus could not operate the gifts of the Spirit as He willed because He was operating as the son of man on the earth. He had put His mighty power and glory to the side and had to be anointed to function for God. (John 5:19, 20, 30, Philippians 2:7 TLB, Acts 10:38)

The second doctrine that I also see that is damaging to the church is the doctrine of seeking angelic visitations and asking God to give you visions. No where in scripture do we see this. There is no biblical basis for this. The Bible says we walk by faith and not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7) Again seeing into the spirit realm is done thru the gift of discerning of spirits which is one of the 9 gifts of the Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12. Again like prophecy this gift operates as the spirit wills. When you go outside of the Word of God you open yourself up for demonic deception and you will begin to have visions of angels and Jesus but it will be devils that transform themselves as angels of light to deceive people.(2 Corinthians 11:12-15)

Colossians2:18-19(The Message Translation)Don’t tolerate people who try to run your life, ordering you to bow and scrape, insisting that you join their obsession with angels and that you seek out visions. They’re a lot of hot air, that’s all they are. They’re completely out of touch with the source of life, Christ, who puts us together in one piece, whose very breath and blood flow through us. He is the Head and we are the body. We can grow up healthy in God

The third doctrine that is damaging to the body of Christ is that you can go to Heaven and visit any time you want to. They use Hebrews 4:16, Ephesians 2:6 these doctrines are doctrines of devils devised in these last days to cause people to fall away. (1Timothy 4:1-2, 2 Timothy 4:1-5) When you start visualizing and doing some of the new age stuff they are teaching about this you will have supernatural experiences but they won’t be from Jehovah God but from the god of this world the devil.

Hebrews 5:14 tells us that thru the use of the meat of the Word of God we train our senses to discern both good and evil. Let us judge things by the Word of God and the inward witness of the Holy Ghost.(1 Thessalonians 5:20-21, John 16:13, Romans 8:14,16, 1 John 4:1)

  3. Wow! At last Todd Bently has claimed the biggest of the gifts – ability to raise the dead.

Let’s see what his faithful followers have to say about this.
    We are waiting…

  4. Liar! Low-down, good-for-nothing, disgusting, little liar!!! My apologies for using such down-to-earth terms, but I firmly believe in calling a spade a spade. Bentley is a liar – and the evidence declares it!

Phil: Next time tell us how you really feel Brother:)

  5. Hi Phil,

This declaration is so typical of these types of events. Wild claims without validation, the truth buried in some article somewhere on a website, with no public admonishment to the people running the event.

Any responsible Christian organization would not be allowing false claims to be made. No one should be allowed on stage to declare healing without some medical validation of it. Even if this outpouring were legit, those running it would have to be fully aware that there would be hucksters seeking to invalidate it with false claims, so extreme caution should be taken before making claims in the name of Jesus or they only make a mockery of Him.

Whether Todd was or was not aware this claim was false does not absolve him from it. It’s pretty obvious to me that he doesn’t care what kind of claims are made in Jesus’ name….truth or lies. That alone reveals the character of this outpouring. No integrity.

Phil: I remember Bentley immediately after speaking on the phone with the “father” of “Jaden” “where is CNN now”?….kinda says it all…

  6. Didn’t Benny Hinn pull a similar stunt claiming someone had been resurrected in a crusade in my native Ghana, only to do a U-turn and say he knew nothing about it?

  7. LOL

When was the last time you saw CNN make a public retraction?

Reminds me of a 4 night seminar I attended. The speaker was a scientist and a Christian. He was teaching intelligent design and he brought with him all the scientific retractions of archeological finds – declared publicly to be one thing – then retracted in some obscure corner of a limited subscription magazine. Money would be quite hard to come by if all the retractions were reported. They fail to recognize the value of upholding the truth.

There is a reason repentance is such a vital part of our faith. Without it, there is no forgiveness.

  8. I echo the comment about medical validation. If our current technology can bring immediate video “evidence” to millions of people around the world, then so much greater is our responsibility to document and prove the claims. Where are the lab reports, doctor testimonies, and lasting evidence of true healing that verify these seemingly hysterical claims? I’ve been swept up in healing services and found out the hard way how disappointing the day after can be. What’s up with the blind man who can now see the shadow of Bentley’s hand waving between him and bright stage lights. Does that look like a miracle of God to you? Did Jesus perform paltry miracles that were incomplete, didn’t last, or couldn’t be verified? He did not. Tell me, most importantly, exactly how is God glorified here? I mean, that’s the point of miracles, remember? Moreover, why do we have to run all over the world seeking revival, anyway? Are we dead? Last I checked, I had the Holy Spirit…that is, the one, true, LIVING God dwelling right inside of me. I don’t need reviving.

  9. Common sense should tell us all these tall tales about visiting heaven and angels are a crock. Why not lying about resurrection? The man is a shameless hukster. I’m amazed so many people fall for this stuff. Hmmm… makes me want to sell some realestate. Think I can get his membership list? And how about this visiting heaven at will, and smelling like vanilla? Who do these people think they/we are? It really is a definition of insanity.

  10. OK, why isn’t more being said about the hospital’s denial? Why isn’t that being thoroughly investigated?

I don’t understand how Charisma Magazine could put up that whole article and yet not further investigate when the hospital denied the story. Couldn’t they have spoken to the child’s doctors? Certainly, if her father (guardian?) called Todd Bentley on his cell phone and was happy to share the miracle publicly when it (supposedly) happened, the girl’s parents would be willing to give the doctors the “OK” to verify their claims. What about the hospital staff? The nurses?

I guess my point is, if Charisma wants to portray the hospital’s denial as just a small technicality from a scientific organization’s faithless P.R. department (that lives to deny the miraculous), there are still plenty of other folks around – including medical records – that could provide documentation for this event.

The fact that they don’t investigate further shows that even Charisma knows the supposed resurrection was a fake.

What’s wrong with these people’s faith, if it cannot stand the truth, the light of day? Why won’t they ask the hard questions?

  11. Hi Douglas,

LOL – Benny Hinn has had to do a some serious side stepping but I haven’t seen a U-turn. Last I checked he has still never been able to provide a single solitary healing that could be validated..So from my view in the stands, the score for Hinn is still – zip – nada – nothing.

Now we have Todd and I highly suspect when the dust settles and time passes – we will find Bentley and Hinn with a tie score of zip to zip, with no hits, and no men on base. It’s time for Todd to stop preaching impartation and start some serious recantation or I fear he will end up like Esau.

  12. About the 3 year old Jaiden apparently raised from the dead after 2 days. Obviously the hospital are going to deny it. There would be big trouble if they “misdiagnosed” her as dead for 2 days if she’d actually been alive all the time, wouldn’t there?

  13. Why would I not be serious?. Think about it —-If you were responsible for the patients in hospital. What negligence to say “your daughter is dead”……………”o sorry, we made a mistake she’s still alive”-Heads would likely roll

  14. Chris,

    Surely you jest!!!!!

Are we now adding conspiracy theories to this mess? Well, I’ll tell ya what, if they held the little girl in preparation as a donor for what, 48 hours, then I think we are safe to assume the parents had to sign consent. So, I would think that would serve to prove or disprove the story. Don’t you?

  15. This false resurrection claim makes all his other claims like visiting heaven and conversing with angels questionable, don’t you think?

Kind of makes his credibility dubious.

Wow! At last Todd Bently has claimed the biggest of the gifts – ability to raise the dead. — NaomiJT

Yeah. What’s he going to do to top that?

GaryV: Don’t waste bandwidth. Chris has drunk the Lakeland Kool-Aid and digested it.

  16. Gary and Dorothty, you know that I’m not jesting. Does it sound like it?

DId anyone see the whole thing unfold live? I did. The woman on the stage obviously was genuine. How do I know? Trust me! Is the hospital denying that the girl ever existed or are they denying the report…..???? That’s what I’d like to know…

ANYWAY, the subject is pretty immense. There would still be another 15 resurrections to reason away anyway.

I’m not that keen on Todd Bentley but “the lame walk, the blind receive their sight e.t.c.” in the name of Jesus.

NOONE ever ever ever attribute this to Satan as that would be a VERY dangerous situation to bring yourselves into.

  17. “Yeah. What’s he going to do to top that?”

Well how about this….. The following is directly from an email I received from Stephen Strador (Pastor of Ignited Church) who has been emailing us every couple of days with the latest updates, including “highlights” of the teaching/preaching (if you can call it that.) Here goes…………

This is the 13th resurrection as a result of this outpouring. I’m saying to the media, “the dead are being raised.”

I received this testimony: “My dear brother died. We requested an all night wake.

At the funeral we played the revival. We declared my brother alive. At 2:19 a.m. my brother began to stir in his coffin.

My brother sat up in the coffin praising God. My brother went to heaven and he thought he would not return. He said Todd was bringing his spirit back from heaven. All of us at the funeral home were praising God.

There you have it….13 (at least ) “raised from the dead.” as a result of this revival!!! (Their words, not mine)

Now my question is this….does the family get a “refund” from the funeral home?

Also, if this claim is true…why isn’t this one getting coverage from the media? Forget the family …if I were that funeral director, I’d have been calling the police, paramedics, etc to get there to check out the individual….just to cover my behind and my business. If they were having the wake, I would think the embalming would have had to have taken place already. I’m sure any funeral director would have been required to make sure that individual was checked out top to bottom since the patient would have been eviscerated and Formalin injected into the body.

  18. Notice the quote supposedly from this man who was raised from the dead …

He said “Todd was bringing his spirit back from heaven.”

Not Jesus….TODD was bringing back his spirit from heaven! Now with this in mind, let me share with you a phone call I got yesterday from a young girl and her Mom who have attended the meetings in Lakeland:

A young woman, who is a friend of my 21-year-old son, called me yesterday (May 29th). She was quite excited because her Mom , who has attended the “Lakeland Outpouring”, saw my nephew appear to her. (My son and my nephew were in a very serious accident May 25th of last year, and my nephew was killed.) According to this young woman, her mother “saw Sam,(my nephew) standing outside by the back door last night.” She was so excited, because “Todd said we have resurrection power, and now Sam shows up”.

This young girl and her Mom, who are very young in the Lord, think that it is biblical to “see and speak to the dead”….cause Todd seems to say so. (Can you say “familar spirit”? Witch of Endor comes to mind as well, doesn’t it?)

This is the reason why you can’t just stand up and expound on your experience and not PREACH Christ and HIS gospel. You have the immature in Christ taking these experiences as “The Gospel of Christ”. What is being expounded from this pulpit in Lakeland IS ANOTHER GOSPEL!!!!

P.S. I had a long talk with the young lady and told her that the dead are dead, and that what she was seeing was not my nephew. The sad part is, Sam’s family (my ex-sister-in-law) are now lighting candles each night this week (at the one year anniversary) with a hope that there will be more “sightings” of Sam! They don’t want to hear the truth..when a false prophet is giving them a false hope!

  19. Dawn, that’s sad……………..and interesting. Does Todd himself believe it is right to talk to the dead or was there just a misunderstanding with his teaching????
    I didn’t think he did………….but I could be wrong????
I know that he believes in the “authority to raise the dead” to life

Phil: Are you referring to Bentley’s claim of visiting Paul in heaven? There was no misunderstanding Chris….he removed this claim from his teaching after several of us exposed this….and I have the copy on file….

  20. Phil (and Chris too!):

I have several of Todd’s teaching series – including “Developing the Seer Gift” . In this series, Todd explains about “portals” that are established here on earth by those who have gone before us. He teaches we can go to these physical locations and step into the portal that has been established and into the “annointing of power” or the “mantle” that has been left behind. i.e. Isaac stepped into the portal established by Abraham and had his own encounter with God (the dream of angles going up and down the ladder) because he went to the same place of Abraham’s original “encounter” with God. He goes on to say, that when we have these “heavenly encounters” we establish portals between heaven and earth, which others can step into those same portals and, as a result, step into their own encounters with God.

I am NOT KIDDING!! This is essence of this teaching series.

Because I initally accepted Todd (without using discernment or searching scripture) as a “prophetic” person, I simply swallowed the kool-aid! What is worse….my pastor let me teach this same stuff to our entire congregation, and there was not so much as even one objection. Why? They too thought I had a very refined prophetic gift, and have basically taken most everything I have ever said as coming from the throne room of God!! This scenario is being repeated throughout churches everywhere.

Chris, are you really familiar with all of Todd’s teachings and positions? Or is your assessment based on what you are seeing on GodTV or online? (Just curious?)

Phil: Bentley’s teachings resemble Harry Potter….portals….port keys….not much difference is there?

  21. Dawn, Some of Billy Grahams theology differs vastly from my own, but God has used him greatly even though I’m sure he must be wrong! That’s not right surely?!

I’ve known Todd’s stuff for a long time.
I think it would be best if you stopped receiving your “Ignited Church News” about the updated healings and miracles e.t.c. as it is upsetting you more. I’ve known Todd’s stuff -though I’ve never been a Todd fan. Things are happening in the Heavenly realms all over the world now since Lakeland and where I am too……..and TODD ISN’T EVEN THERE!!!

ANYWAY, my final question is what about the miracles (and there are many) done where Todd is nowhere to be seen e.g. in England where it seems God has continued doing amazing things. Are you going to discount healing in Jesus name, because God chose Todd as a vessel in the Outpouring to begin with?

Phil: Unless they provide documentation then I will be suspicious of these “miracles”….surely getting medical confirmation that these “miracles” actually happened shouldn’t be that difficult to obtain, should they Chris?

  22. Chris,

I also suppose you believe in aliens because people have gone on TV to claim they were abducted?

Events like these bring out all sorts of people. IF Bentley and Co. were legit, these would be validated before they were reported. They would be interviewing those “raised from the dead” don’t ya think?

  23. Friends please consider that there could be miracles and they aren’t from God. Pharaoh’s magicians performed the same signs Mose did until he called the lice. The magicians turned their staff into a serpent, water into blood, and called frogs out of the river. Exodus 7-8. Why doesn’t Bentley go back to heaven’s store house and fill his pockets with more money so he doesn’t have to ask people to support him? If he can raise people from the dead why can’t he print a few C notes?

  24. Is nobody going to answer my last question?

Phil: I already answered your question Chris.

  25. Sorry, Phil. In reading over again I see you did.

What we’re wanting is truth not scoring brownie points.

It saddens me to see such a mistaken understanding on this site. Phil, your reasoning relates to what Christians have spoken against Satan’s apparent “miracles” in association with the occult. Pharaoh had no interest in YVHW after all. I think it is a dangerous association again, Phil although I realise your sincerity.

I’m going to leave it there. BUT to conclude I’ll just quote a few simple portions of Scripture which should change your way of thinking and I hope they do, but I don’t have the faith to believe they will.

John the Baptist in prison wanted it confirmed that Jesus was the Messiah. What proof did Jesus think he required?

The answer that should be satisfactory is in Luke 7:22

Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them.

Shouldn’t John have checked out more about the person of Jesus?

In response to anything “occultic” or “evil”:-
    Mat 12:24-28

“Now when the Pharisees heard it they said “This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons”. But Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them “every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. If Satan casts out Satan, his is divided against himself. Howe then will his kingdom stand?”

    Mark 9:38-41

“Teacher” said John, “we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he wasn’t one of us”
“Do not stop him”, Jesus said. “No-one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, for whoever is not against us is FOR US.”

  26. Matthew: 7-22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

As we see not everything done in Jesus name is for Him.
If we do not get back to the Gospel i.e. Jesus Christ and him crucified, and forget about angels named winds of change and new revelations.
And start preaching repentance and the wages of sin is death.
And tell people there is a heaven to gain and a hell to shun.
Someone is coming with all kinds of signs and wonders and resurrections that will be verifiable!!
    And he loves itchy ears……………

  27. Hi Todd,

What is so apparent to me in these types of revivals is a blatant lack of understanding that God is Holy Holy Holy…

There is absolutely NO REVERENCE of God.

When Isaiah saw God, he didn’t respond in what they call “holy laughter”, he responded “Woe is me”. I see nothing in the Bentley and co “cult-ural event of the year” that even remotely displays a “woe is me” response from those in attendance.

I agree, it’s time to start preaching repentance and the wages of sin. Bring it on….the sooner the better. Unfortunately, we have too many in pulpits who won’t do what’s right in the eyes of God.

I’ve been considering putting together a program of “accountability” to use in the reformed Churches. It’s a questionaire sent to pastors, where the results are published and graded. I think it’s time for laity to start calling pastors to accountability. Failure to participate will result in a failing grade. This is not optional. I may be optimistic, but I do believe such a program will bring about the desired results. It’s a sad state of affairs when one of my family members can sit in a reformed Church of size for 10 years and have never heard a sermon on the 5 solas, doesn’t know what the “elect” are, or if atonement is limited or unlimited.

What do you think? Would such a program work?

  28. Hi Dorothy,
I think your idea is admirable, but I think the execution of it would be fruitless.
I say that because I don’t think most pastors would want an independent group grading them.
I can hear it now, God is my judge, and they are correct and will find that out.
I think it would be a pride issue, and besides trying to cross denominational boundaries.
As Christians we should push for more Christians to be literate about the bible.
If more took interest in the word, instead of relying solely on a pastor reading the word to them, it would be harder for pastor’s to lead people astray.
When Jesus said you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free, the truth is in Christ and the word.
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Just getting the basics down as you pointed out, and not waiting to hear a sermon on something, they should already know.
If they have been saved any length of time.
Paul said in 1 Cor 2:2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
That should be all we think about, because that’s what saved us and keeps us.
Sorry to ramble on, but it saddens me to see so many so confused and caught up in every new thing.
There are preachers out there still shouting the truth, it’s just hard to find them nowadays.

  29. Hi there. I believe the devil works in those discouraging others, not in those encouraging others. The devil makes passive, not active. He tries to bind people, not to set them free. From this point of view anyone can decide what is what, very easily.

  30. Go to youtube, there are many video’s posted on Todd Bentley and this ongoing revival happening in Lakeland, FL
Validity is important should someone state before the world, 30+ people have been ‘raised from the dead.’
Video for 3 yr old is found on yourtube. It’s title: Florida Raised from the dead in hospital
Video on man in coffin sitting up, BTW, he was never inbalmed.
Video: Florida Outpouring – Dead, and then he sat up in his coffin!
Andrew Strom is author of the first book on the Lakeland outpouring, “An Insider’s Warning.” He spent 11 years in the same Prophetic movement as Todd Bentley. Must see video footage of his interview on Youtube
