DayStar Share-a-Thon Fall 2007

I’ve been watching the DayStar Fall Share-a-thon the past couple of days. DayStar is owned by Marcus and Joni Lamb and there was a time when I personally believed that they were actually going to attempt to bring in folks who preached the Gospel. Well, I was wrong. So far this week, they’ve showed reruns of Jamaal Harrison Bryant, Paula White and Juanita Bynum. Would a legit Christian ministry allow these three beggars, each of them swirled in controversy, to raise money to “cover the earth” with the Gospel?

Jamaal Harrison Bryant is the senior pastor of Empowerment Temple in Baltimore Maryland. He claims on his website to have obtained a “PhD” from Oxford University. The strange thing about this claim? Oxford University has never heard of him! Why would the guy lie so openly when a claim like this can be so easily verified? I think this is the least of this man’s “issues”.

Bryant preached without a bible but used a dollar bill to preach about some New World Order, which is what folks like Rick Warren and the New Agers are attempting to bring about. He then claimed later that this year (2006) he would only be preaching from the Book of Proverbs. I would love to hear him expound on the following chapter from this awesome instructional book;

Proverbs Chapter 5 (ESV)

My son, be attentive to my wisdom; incline your ear to my understanding, that you may keep discretion, and your lips may guard knowledge. For the lips of a forbidden woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil, but in the end she is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps follow the path to Sheol; she does not ponder the path of life; her ways wander, and she does not know it. And now, O sons, listen to me, and do not depart from the words of my mouth. Keep your way far from her, and do not go near the door of her house, lest you give your honor to others and your years to the merciless, lest strangers take their fill of your strength, and your labors go to the house of a foreigner, and at the end of your life you groan, when your flesh and body are consumed, and you say, “How I hated discipline, and my heart despised reproof! I did not listen to the voice of my teachers or incline my ear to my instructors. I am at the brink of utter ruin in the assembled congregation.” Drink water from your own cistern, flowing water from your own well. Should your springs be scattered abroad, streams of water in the streets? Let them be for yourself alone, and not for strangers with you. Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth, a lovely deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts fill you at all times with delight; be intoxicated always in her love. Why should you be intoxicated, my son, with a forbidden woman and embrace the bosom of an adulteress? For a man’s ways are before the eyes of the LORD, and he ponders all his paths. The iniquities of the wicked ensnare him, and he is held fast in the cords of his sin. He dies for lack of discipline, and because of his great folly he is led astray.

They showed a segment with precious Paula White that must have been from at least 3 or four years ago because her appearance and preaching style has definitely changed. Oh, she was begging BIG-TIME but not with the authority that she does now. At times, she appeared meek and even a bit overwhelmed. She appeared to use the teleprompter quite a bit, especially when using the name Jesus or to reference a bible verse she was twisting. During her time with the Lambs, she showed them this huge, worn Bible that she preached from. The Lambs commented on the vast amount of notes that precious Paula had written inside of this Bible.

Times have certainly changed for precious Paula. She’s no longer the pastor of Without Walls International Church and is now “overseeing pastor” at her ‘friend’ Rick Hawkins church in San Antonio Texas. She has a jet and a BIG-TIME ministry that has become her idol. She’s about to be divorced for a second time. Her main message is prosperity and the large worn out bible seems to have left the scene, replaced by the Gospel of greed. She doesn’t need a teleprompter to remember the Name of Jesus because she rarely mentions Jesus anymore. Instead of a desire to win souls to Christ, it appears her only desire is to obtain money so she can hobnob with the likes of Donald Trump. Paula, please pick up that old worn out Bible of yours, with all the notes, and look at the following Scripture and see what your notes say?

1Timothy 6:3-21 (ESV) If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain. Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which he will display at the proper time–he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen. As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.  O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge,” for by professing it some have swerved from the faith. Grace be with you.

Juanita Bynum is a mess. Why the Lamb’s allowed a rerun of this heretic is beyond the scope of my comprehension. They actually showed Bynum and White reruns back to back. I was astonished that they would do this!

Juanita claimed to have a “threshing floor” and that she prayed to God for the words to say to the sheeple she was about to fleece. Prancing around ranting and raving in a white robe begging the viewers to give DayStar money is hardly preaching the Gospel Juanita. What else can we expect from this viper? Apparently, she didn’t pray on her “threshing floor” prior to winding up being thrashed by her punk husband, Thomas Weeks III.

Juanita is now claiming to be an “advocate” for domestic violence and hung out with Oprah Winfrey and Presidential Candidate and US Senator Barak Obama this past weekend. Apparently, this is Juanita’s new “destiny”. Winfrey has stated in the past that “Jesus isn’t the only way to God” and is steeped in the New Age Movement yet still claims to be a Christian. Senator Obama also claims to be a Christian yet supports abortion and gay rights. Hopefully, Juanita will stay in the world and far away from the Body of Christ unless she repents and asks the Lord Jesus Christ to come into her heart. Juanita, please return to your “threshing floor” and ask God what the following Scripture actually means;

2Corinthians 6:14-18 (ESV)Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.”

Unless Marcus Lamb has been living on Pluto, he must be aware that the three amigo’s have issues because these “issues” are very public. To have these three liars on their network, in any capacity, demonstrates that the Lamb’s have placed raising money over Christian character. This saddens me, because, as I stated earlier, I had high hopes that this would be an actual “Christian” network. Looks like I was wrong.

I haven’t been this sick since I ate 5 gyros and then taught 7 tennis lessons on a 100 degree day!

  1. Prosperity Gospel is prevelant today because it scratches the itching ears. They want to hear how God owes them something. How they deserve the best and God wouldn’t want it any other way. Faith is power to get want you want. Meanwhile the Truth is Jesus became poor that we might become rich. He came here wrapped in swaddling clothing, born in a manager. That’s only okay for Christmas time I guess. This tragedy didn’t happen for us to serve up a dish of Truth of Bynum and Weeks, this happened so that those who have been deceived will open the eyes and ears to hear the Truth. Jesus said; Foxes have holes and birds have nest, but the Son of man has no where to lay his head. Does that sound like Jesus was rich. We are decieved not by our own hearts. Are you really running after God or are you running after things is the question. He will never tempt you but He will test you.

  2. Thank you for the insight. I am not familiar with DayStar, but I am quite familiar with the blasphemous conduct of the aformentioned, as well as others. Woe unto them.

  3. Thanks for leaving this blog……. the Body of Christ as we know it is in a heap of trouble. But the word said these days would come……….. I just Pray that more people would wake up & Pray for this nations. Consequently what happens in the church effects the world overall…… and it is a sad day in the church right now.

  4. I, too, am sick of these liars and their prostitution of Scripture for their enrichment. I often feel that everyone ought to be up in arms and armed with Bibles in the effort to squelch these people.

Bynum, White, Bryant, and the whole Prosperity movement are a serious hindrance to the true faith. Hopefully their time in the light is short, and people will begin to learn and grow in the Lord for themselves.

Until I started blogging, and reading blogs, I felt that I was on an island. It is cool to see so many others who feel as I do and who are shouting through the darkness.

  5. Sorry,,but time I heard that. I know the subject itself is tragic but true, so many fall into the “I want, and me too and NOW trap”. At the very least, because of the controversial circumstances involving the afore mentioned folks, they (daystar) should seperate themselves from anything that even smells fishy (Ungodly), less they too become full of stench. Perhaps they feel a certain loyalty to, even as God wishes us to forgive, they are attempting to publicly support them? Or perhaps it’s a type of ” in your face” statement. Either way, I learn to appreciate Billy Graham more and more for steering clear of the world and sticking to Gods word, even when he exhorted us, he always reminded us that, ” The bible says,( Gods pure Word)”, and only that. He kept his nose clean and never dabbled in other personal interest areas. I pray for his son to continue this true man of God’s legacy, and that the other ministers use his example in the human sense, and ultimately use Gods example in the spiritual sense. Lets all pray for each other, is my sincerest wish…..In him,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,yo

  6. Another reason they use Ms PW is, salemanship. Boy, she could sell ice to the Eskimos( Inuets). Thirty minutes or more, just a continous stream of words spewing out incessantly, that IS talent. Phew, I had to go get a drink of water twice just listening. However, there is a big difference between being talented, and being annointed when it comes to HIS kingdom, so, buyer beware!! Together we can make a difference. In Him………yo

  7. Look I know Joni Lamb very well. She is nothing but a snob who pretends to be something that she is not. She is no more a legitimate Christian than a Nazi is. This woman had a bottle of pills which she claimed to remove cellulite( which I am attracted to) from the bodies of women on her show. Think of it! This is the same woman that claims to have a relationship with Jesus Christ but is selling a product that could be dangerous in order for some wuss for a lady to meet some standard for physical perfection that was created by a goddless institution which controls and dominates our media outlets and Television networks. What a hypocrite! This shows that we have Christians who are wimpified by cowardice and have been silenced and made relevant by those who hate Jesus Christ and morality all put together. I am not suprised that they would have word faith preachers on their networks because they believe the same lies that these phonies expouse to their congregations.

  8. All that has been mentioned concerning these “prosperity preachers” is true. No one is casting a stone at either of them – the truth is the truth. As believers, we are given a charge to stand up and say “thus saith the Lord”. When the church has become a laughing stock and made a mockery because of the blasphemy and immoral lives of individuals such as these, the true, born-again believers have got to take a stand.

The Word says “if we or an angel come preaching any other gospel, let him be accursed.” (Galatians 1 v 8.) The word also says if anyone adds to this book, God will add the plagues that are written therein to that man. It also says if anyone takes away from the book, God will take his name from the book of life and the holy city. (Revelation 22 v 19)

As the individual stated, scripture says that there will come a time when men will not endure sound doctrine but will heap up teachers, having itching ears (paraphrase II Tim. 4 v 3) What these self-proclaimed preachers are preaching is contrary to what Jesus preached. Our Lord came preaching the kingdom, not wealth and health. He came preaching LIFE and that with the Father.

He told us to set our affections on things above (Col. 3 v 2) not on the earth. He told us that we should seek the kingdom first and all its righteousness….(Matt. 6 v 33) These tv ministers are coming and stealing the word of GOD from unsuspecting pple whom are weak in their faith. They are indeed in error and will face God in the judgment.

As far as “casting the first stone”, we are instructed as believers to judge these matters. Paul in the book of Corinthians said ” I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?” (I Cor. 6 v 5)

He said in the previous verse ‘ Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life? (vv2 & 3) The church is to judge matters and render judgment.

Now how we render judgment should be done descently and in order. If these so called believers are using the media, television, etc., to spread this heresy, I believe true believers can use the same methods to expose their lies and hypocricy but, in a spiritual manner.

We also have guidelines in the book of Matthew when a brother offends one, he goes to him, if he doesn’t hear, he takes witnesses, if he doesn’t hear them, he takes it to the church and if he doesn’t hear, put him out of the church.

That offense can even be in preaching another gospel. Christ is coming back for a church without spot or blemish and it would behoove us that we begin cleaning out our houses now because, our houses are on fire. It is evident by the actions of these self-proclaimed prophets and prophetesses.

There are guidelines within the bible as to how a man and a woman of God are to conduct themselves. It would behoove us to adhere to it for God will judge us. HIS word doesn’t change irregardless of the fame of any individual. God is not a respecter of persons. (Romans 2 v 11)

That’s why God said judgment will begin with the house of God…(I Peter 4 v 17). The Word says ” they that preach the gospel should live of the gospel (I Cor. 9 v 14). He told us that those whom teach the gospel will receive the greater condemnation. (James 3 v 1)

Everyone whom stands and proclaims the name Jesus has a responsibility to live according to what they preach. If they are in error, God has given us instructions as to how to discipline them to restore them (Galatians 6 v 1) but if they continue, we are not to company with them, not even eat with them. (II Thess. 3 v 14 – Ephesians)

No, we don’t have to come after the Weeks or the Bynums or the White’s with swords or guns but we do have a charge to speak the truth in LOVE.

God is not willing that any of these souls die but that they should come unto repentence (II Peter 3 v 9) therefore, we whom do not have contact with them should pray for their souls and pray that God would send someone into their lives that would direct them to the truth of the gospel. Pray that they hear and repent.

Pray that God will be merciful to them when He disciplines them for their error. Scripture says that God chastens them whom HE loves. (Revelation 3 v 19)With everything, there is a consequence, even with repentence. He is faithful and just to forgive them of this unrighteousness but with forgiveness, comes discipline and consequences. (I John 1 v 9)

Yes, judge righteous judgment, not according to appearance. (John 7 v 24) Let’s not let the world see a division in the body by blasting these individuals via internet, regardless of how true their error is. There needs to be unity but, when asked personally concerning their “gospel” speak the truth, but speak it in love.

I am grieved when I tune in and see either of these individuals and the networks that seek after them because they can draw a crowd and money however, I will pray for all because one day, they will have to stand before the judgment seat of God and give account for the error of their ways – causing God’s sheep to go astray.

The Word says “woe unto you pastors that scatter and destroy the sheep of my pasture (Jeremiah 23 v 1) Not only are they leading others into darkness and eternal condemnation, they themselves are facing an impending judgment – hell. I pray for their souls because right now, they are the blind leading the blind. (Matt. 15 v 14)

Saints, be careful of how you use your tongue. Regardless of the truth, God says that every idle word that men shall give account of in the day of judgment. By your words you will be justified and by your words you will be condemned. (Matt. 12 v 36 & 37)

Pray for these individuals and keep a bridle on your tongue when it comes to God’s pple.

Let your speach graceful, seasoned with salt that it may give grace to the hearers. (paraphrase -Colosians 4 v 6)

Build the church with your words, not tear it down. But stand when occassion presents itself and let the gospel dispel the darkness that ministers such as these preach – in love.

    • “Christ is coming back for a church without spot or blemish”- I was told that Joyce Meyer used this Scripture on her show (by someone who actually saw the show) to justify all the plastic surgeries that she has endured. I do not endorse nor watch these tele-preachers, I am apalled at what their doing to the Body of Christ. Jesus said in those days many will say to Him: “Lord, but we preached in Your name, we cast out demons, we healed many sick, but the Lord will say to these hypocrites: Saty away from Me, I don’t know you, doer’s of iniquity”. As for me, I stay simple to the True Gospel of the Lord, praying with suplication each day to see if I could grab on to that which I was grabbed on by my Redeemer!

  9. Amen to that, dear Lane…and ditto. At some point or another, EVERY one of us will make mistakes, or errors in judgement, so we listen to rebuke, ask for forgiveness, and try to do better. We must first acknowledge we have done wrong, and there in lies the rub. Some don’t admit it because they don’t see it or refuse to acknowledge it. Then it is up to others who are aware of it to go, in love and ask for them to change or to remove themselves from the situation, and if they still refuse then as the bible states, we hand it over to Him and let Him deal with it, but we must let others know of the dangers, or else how can they be protected or be made aware of it? Tragically some will fall to the wiles and deceptions of many who claim to speak for God but may not be, they have for eons and shall continue to do so, even to a much greater extent. But we really must open our eyes and beware to protect those in HIS kingdom, it is our job as Gods children. Not to judge, but to open their eyes to the truth.

  10. See John 3:16-17
Verse 17 for God send not His Son into the world to condemn……these issues discussed – seems that it is about Prophetess Bynum and the Whites- What about your life? are you trying to take the place of God? Where are you in your relationship with Him? Do you love Jesus? Then the issue is not about others but about you. pray, pray, pray for them, Jesus Christ is coming soon? are you ready? is your house in order? Read and apply the Word see St John 8.

I am on the Lord’s side.

    • It seems that many pick and choose verses to justify their arguments. No one is condenming, they are doing that themselves. As the Body of Christ we need to stay true to the Truth and defend the righteousness of the Lord, people are using grace as an excuse for sin.

  11. I agree with Lane. I understand what you are saying. You are not attacking them; you are attacking what they are teaching. People of God there is a different. When Apostle Paul spoke to people, was he attacking them or was he attacking what they where doing? He addresses the issue of sin. That is what needs to be address, because the people of God are not addressing sin we have missed God. People are lead astray when there is no accountability among the people of God

  12. When we sin individually, God alone knows our hearts and forgives and erases our sins if we repent. However when prominant SELF proclaimed leaders are walking and talking in non Christian ways or have been led astray and remain away from His glory, and then they cause multitudes to sway and to fall short of His glory, you better believe if we know better, it is OUR responsibility to rebuke and exhort those who are leading others to sin. You wouldnt let your child just run into the street if you knew there was danger, thus, we must look out for our own, as true children of God.
And ps. as for my house and in all things God is master, thankfully and pray continually for that which needs work.

  13. Curled up in a prison cl, they shivered in the cold.
Tortured for the cause of Christ, yet peace was in their souls.
For weeks they were in shackles that cut their hands and feet.
They suffered in a Roman Jail for preaching in the street.

    To live is Christ
    To die is gain
    To endure
    Is to reign with Him
Though Satan hurls with all his might
    His massive fury against us

  14. Hi Phil,

I saw your mention of Rich, I mean Rick Warren here and just wanted to make a comment.

I’ve been working through Rick Warren’s book “The Purpose Driven Life” and imho it is a scam of huge proportions. Everytime I run into someone who promotes it, I take them to the intro of Chapter 5 where Warren quotes Anais Nin “We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are”. Anais Nin was a huge propagator of female erotica and had countless affairs. Now what in the world is Rick Warren doing by quoting her in support of Christian truths? AND that’s only one example of several more. The minute I see such an error, I deem the entire book worthless.

Don’t readers ever look up the people quoted in these books? Doesn’t anyone ever read a Christian book with a Bible in hand and check every scripture cited – and by that I mean reading the chapter before and after the cited scripture to see if it’s in context? Warren was pretty crafty in his work. He makes you go to the index to look up the chapter and verse he quotes. I did take the time to rip that section out of the book and write the scriptural references in the margins. I won’t go into that here.

People who read this stuff blindly are setting themselves up to be fleeced. AND because I’ve been challenged on this before, I picked up my copy of the book from a used book store and didn’t add 1 cent to Warren’s pocketbook (just in case someone asks). 🙂

    • Wow, thank you so much for the information. I have 3 of those that I bought in a thrift store to use it for gifts, I checked what you said about Anais Nin and it’s true. Shame on Rick Warren! I will throw those books in the garbage where they belong!

  15. Regarding Marcus and Joni Lamb: I have been watching Daystar Network for several years now and will have to say I have enjoyed many of the programs. Lately, however, I am disenchanted by the unethical means of getting money in the Sharathon. Also, I am getting sick and tired of Marcus telling Joni how gorgeous she is. About a year ago he even made the arrogant statement that Joni was the most beatiful woman on Christian TV and also the best example of wife, mother, etc. Are we to think that one criteria for being a Christian is being physically beautiful? Marcus also claimed that his daughters were beautiful enough to be Hollywood stars. Marcus has serious delusions about himself and his family. What do others think? Marcus has also made comments about how he tried to get the tallest woman who would have him so he wouldn’t have short children. Sounds like Marcus has some kind of a complex in this area.

    • Lord have mercy! Just found out he had an affair years ago and was hidden under a rug. She is so beautiful and he cheats on her?
